As the founder and lead artist at BBM, Marcella Masci’s professional expertise, business savvy, and personable approach have made our beauty shop into what it is today. In this up-close interview, she speaks about her journey from a young girl living in Brazil to a leading permanent makeup artist and business owner. She also shares some of her own beauty secrets – so you can feel as pampered at home as you do in her studio!
Tell us about how you got to where you are today, a leading makeup artist and beauty studio owner.
I’ve always known that my passion was in the beauty industry. I grew up inside my Mom’s Beauty Spa in Brazil dreaming about the day that I was going to have my own studio to decorate and manage my own way.
All I had to do was follow my vision, listen to my intuition and only work on the services that gave me the most pleasure, fulfillment and happiness. I feel that this is the best recipe to achieve your goals.
How do you think growing up in Brazil has impacted your passion for beauty services?
My culture is definitely known worldwide for its beauty trends. Brazilian women grow up feeling the pressure to always look their best. As a teenage girl walking down the streets in Rio de Janeiro, I used to see those beautiful, well-maintained women walking to the beach wearing very little makeup and looking fabulous.
That’s when I discovered the power of Permanent Makeup! I feel that I grew up knowing that beauty enhancement is a very powerful tool in every woman’s life.
What makes you different from other makeup and beauty artists?
I believe it’s my passion!
Permanent Makeup has been my passion since my teenage years. I feel like the luckiest person doing what I love the most! I also focus on high quality. All my supplies are the best supplies in the industry and I don’t compromise on that.
A natural transition – how the beauty industry and permanent makeup has changed and what it means for you.
How have you seen beauty and makeup change since you started in the industry?
Definitely! When my Mom started in the industry 28 years ago things were very different. Permanent Makeup was done using “tattooing techniques”.
Today, the results are extremely soft and natural looking. Permanent Makeup machines and needles have evolved and women just love it!
As a permanent makeup specialist – what would you say is the biggest misconception about permanent makeup?
The biggest misconception is that Permanent Makeup is not natural looking. With the creation of new types of machines, pigments and needles I am able to trick everyone into believing that those perfect brows and lips are all yours.
What’s the number one question you get at BBM?
Is it going to hurt?
The answer is absolutely not. I make sure my clients are completely numb before I start any procedure.
Marcella’s beauty routine – makeup and skincare secrets you can use at home
We must know . . . what is your daily beauty routine?
I always make sure my skin is clean, moisturized and I have a good SPF on. With my own Permanent Makeup, my morning routine is very basic. All I do is to
add a bronzer and a lip balm after my skin care routine is done.
If I could give one piece of advice to every woman, it would be “Girls please drink your water.” Hydration is essential for the health and glow of your skin.
What’s one beauty trick that you could share?
Use olive oil or coconut oil to remove your makeup and deep cleanse your skin. A hot face towel with coconut oil or olive oil is my favourite beauty trick of them all.
